Last swing for girls’ tennis

On October 28, Girls’ Tennis played their last game of the season against Irvington. Many supporters came out to cheer for the girls’ last match. Unfortunately, both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams lost 1-6 and 0-7, respectively. Many of the team members felt bittersweet about ending the season with a loss. Senior Laura Cayabyab said, “It sucks but I’m so glad our team stuck together through the entire season!” Washington has played each school twice and their record for this year’s season is 6-6. However, the Varsity players will advance to MVALS, the Mission Valley Athletic Championships, along with all the other schools in Fremont. If a Washington player qualifies as one of the top three, she will continue to NCS, the North Coast Section Championships.
This day was also their Senior Night. All the seniors on both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams were honored for the night. The ten seniors that received two roses and candy were Meilin Liang, Shweta Sugnani, Kaitlyn Martinez, Laura Cayabyab, Cherry Liu, Bharathi Gandi, Ruby Miu, Ninon Becquart, Akhila Nekkanti, and Esther Jeon. Throughout the game, there was food, such as cookies, chips, and pizza, supplied for the players to replenish their energy. Senior Cherry Liu said, “The food was really good and the games were fun, even though we lost. It was an amazing Senior Night!” For those hoping to encourage their fellow tennis players, the Varsity team will be playing at MVALS from November 1 to November 3. Senior Akhila Nekkanti says, “It’ll be a hit!”
