The girls water polo team played their first seasonal MVAL game against American High School Sept. 24.

“It went swimmingly,” joked senior and co-captain Breana Meagher.

Defeating the Eagles 18-2, the Huskies had a solid performance. Senior Jocelyne Yamaguchi, junior Ally Hokanson and sophomore Megan Ottoboni scored three goals each in the game.

However, with one game down, the girls will be facing tough competition– Newark Memorial High Sept. 29 at home. According to players on the team, this upcoming game will be one of their toughest matches.

The Sept. 17 James Logan varsity girls tennis invitational brought teams from Drake, Clapo Londo, American, Amador and several others. The Husky girls lost to Clapo Lindo but pulled through and defeated Drake, stealing their fourth place rank. The team hopes they will use this experience to improve their game before season officially begins. The Husky varsity one doubles team, senior Kaylee Miu and freshman Alice Pham won their pro-set 8-1 against Drake. Varsity one singles, junior Lauren Hishinuma also won her match.

The girls next game is Sept. 24 at home against Newark Memorial High. Co-captain Shelmi Liang believes the upcoming game will be a “definite win.”

“The team has a lot of talent and shows a lot of promise. I am nervous, but confident. We’ll do our best and play to win,” coach Matthew Brahbam said.

With a shocking number of 14 new and eight returning players this season, the girls have become the underdogs of the MVAL, ready to come out bold.
