It had been four or five years since the last time I went to a baseball game. I remember how high the prices were at the food stands.
“Three-fifty for a bottle of water?” I thought to myself. “I’m not that thirsty. I guess I’ll buy some spicy nachos instead.”
I realized later that I was cheated a dollar on change.
“Darn it! Well, I wasn’t that hungry.”
When I sat back at my seat, the A’s were winning, but the Red Sox gave them a complete and utter thrashing in the end. I was disappointed that the A’s were not at the top of their game because I was rooting for them.
Also, it rained at the coliseum during the middle of the game.
“Well, at least I’m underneath a balcony.” A few moments later, the wind had blown toward the row of seats I sat in, but I did not mind at all. “It’s okay. I’m at the A’s game!”
I was in the company of my friends, laughing and sharing a tray of peanuts being passed back and forth between us.
I had a flashback of my first baseball game when I was a Cub Scout and it gave me a warm feeling despite the rain. I also thought of another time where I saw a drunken man streaking across the outer field and security guards chasing him. That did not happen this time, but it sure was hilarious thinking about it years ago.
Even though the A’s lost, it was refreshing to go out with the journalism class and miss a half a day of school. Riding on BART, sharing snacks, and getting wet was well worth it!
