Day of Silence speaks without words

April 15, 2010

Nicole Doan

Senior Rachel Cabugao creates a poster to advertise Day of Silence, which protests the silencing of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) individuals and their sexual orientation. Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Club members have been making posters and selling shirts to encourage people to participate in the quiet outcry against hateful sentiments toward the LGBT community. The Day of Silence tradition includes voluntary speechlessness, often by placing tape over participants’ mouths. Students and staff can also purchase GSA t-shirts for $10 and ribbons for 50 cents to support the cause from English teacher Stewart Perlman in room E-222. Day of Silence will take place April 16.
