The girls volleyball season ended with a tough loss to Foothill High School Nov. 14. The girls came out playing hard winning the first set, dominating 25-15. However, Foothill came back in the second and third set, winning 17-25 and 23-25. Down a set, the girls fought back with a 25-16 victory, tying the game at 2-2. Forced to play a tie-breaker up to fifteen, both teams rallied hard, but Washington ultimately fell short, losing 14-16 and ending their 2009 season.
“We should have won in 3 sets rather than lose in 5,” senior Melisa Randall said.
The girls’ anticipation for the final set was noticeable. The fifth set was extremely close, while tension and energy grew within each long rally, but it wasn’t enough to pull through.
“It was a good loss,” sophomore Caitlen Jorgens said.
There were little reasons for the close loss, but the girls agreed that they could have stayed more motivated or made different adjustments during the game.
The girls look positively back at the season, recognizing all the success they had.
“We did really well and I’m proud of the way we’ve played,” senior Cody Bates said.
At the end of the season, the girls can still be proud of their place and call themselves the 2009 MVAL co-champions.
