Boys varsity volleyball won their first game of the season against Logan, despite losing seven seniors the previous year and a coaching change. The game was at home on March 10, playing five out of five games resulting in the scores: 17-25, 25-15, 25-23, 24-26, and 15-13.

Last year’s varsity coach Eva Choy retired after ten years of coaching the boys volleyball team, because of her love of volleyball she now helps as a team advisor.

“I just can’t stay away from volleyball. Now I supervise the coaches and help work out the program. I’m making sure everything stays the same with the transition of coaches. It is important to keep consistency and make sure the kids have fun,” Choy said.

Jeremiah Pricer is the new varsity coach and his brother Samuel Pricer is coaching the JV team. Both are Washington alumni and have played for the team.

“We have young teams. This year is a rebuilding year for both JV and varsity,” Choy said.

JV lost in two games out of three against Logan with scores of 22-25 and 20-25.

“They did their best. They don’t give up. For most guys, it’s their first year and they have already improved between preseason and season games,” Sam Pricer said.

Temporary history teacher Michael Soltau is Logan’s varsity coach, and has been coaching for the last five years. Soltau has coached the girls and now the boys at Logan this year.

Although there have been students who have asked why Soltau teaches here and coaches Logan, Soltau remains without conflict about the situation.

“I explain it to the kids and they’re fine with it. I have no animosity towards the players on the Washington team. Our league is good friends. On the court true – we’re rivals, but off court we’re pretty good friends,” Soltau said.
