Lights flashed as the rhythms boomed during the class of 09’s Senior Ball at the San Francisco Galleria. Attendees entered the four story building on Saturday, May 9. The first three floors were lined with circular dinner tables and buffet tables containing dishes of caesar salad, mashed potatoes, pasta, and grilled chicken. The stage and dance floor rested in the center of the first floor along with an open bar, varieties of non-alcoholic drinks.

Towards the middle of the night, senior class president Jamie Quelendrino announced a special surprise, announcing the arrival of the Bay Area rap group The Pack. Students cheered and sang along to the group’s hit songs including Vans, In My Car, and Go Boppa.

“I was really surprised when The Pack came onto the stage; I wasn’t expecting that at all,” senior Khoa Phan said.

The Wednesday before Senior Ball, a prom coordinator from Lavish Events told class officers that The Pack would be in town the day of Senior Ball and offered to hire them. The fee of The Pack and the balloon drop at the end of the night were both paid entirely by the senior class treasury and were not included in the ticket cost.

“We wanted  to make Senior Ball special so we said yes right away. I think we got lucky getting them to perform,” Quelendrino said.

Attendees were also able to observe San Francisco’s annual firework display, Kaboom, hosted by the KFOG radio station, from the upper levels of the Galleria.

Altogether about 490 students attended the dance, nearly the size of the entire senior class. About a fourth of those who attended were lower classmen or guests.

“The night was absolutely perfect, I would not have changed a thing, and it is something I’m sure I’ll remember until I’m old and senile,” sophomore Lindsey Pegueros said.
