The school library is often crowded with numerous students, teachers, and staff using its resources. Every day, there are can be as many as three different classes in the library during one class period. Teachers use the library for various reasons.

“It gives the students time to work on their projects so they don’t have to do as much at home. At least here they are together,” Spanish teacher Mary Gimeno said.

Gimeno’s class was in the library at 2:15 p.m. on May 8, working on  PowerPoint projects in groups. Gimeno also likes to use the library because it gives her and her students a chance to get out of the classroom and work somewhere else for a change.

While in the library, teachers have the resources of librarian Kristen Marie. At the time, Marie was helping Gimeno’s students assemble their PowerPoints.

“I deal with kids at all different technical levels,” Marie said.

Marie’s job includes doing research for teachers, helping students do their own research, helping student use the computers, creating accounts for students on the school server, and digitally encoding all the books in the library.

Also in the library was history teacher David Stephenson’s AP U.S. History class. They had just finished taking their AP exam and some students were relaxing by playing cards.

In the course of one school year, approximately 983 classes will have gone to work in the library.
