Any day can be April Fool’s Day as far as junior Sarah DeLanda and her family are concerned. Occasionally, one can pass through DeLanda’s neighborhood to witness the havoc that the neighbors have created for each other—all in good fun, of course.

It all started one day a few months ago when DeLanda’s father, Mike, spied a couple soccer balls resting on the porch of neighbor and former Washington soccer coach Tony Hernandez.

“Mr. Hernandez wasn’t home and my dad thought it would be a good idea to duct tape all of his soccer balls onto the gutter before he came back,” DeLanda said.

Thus, the prank war between the families began. Hernandez retaliated against the DeLandas by “winter wonderlanding” their house. He littered the DeLanda’s lawn with cotton balls, skis and Christmas signs. He also covered their house with toilet paper, and the car with plastic wrap.

A few days later, DeLanda’s mother took her and her siblings to purchase 200 rolls of toilet paper to take revenge on Hernandez. Later that night, Hernandez’s house disappeared under a white blanket of toilet paper.

“You couldn’t see any sign of his house.  We used everything we had,” DeLanda said.
