“It first started as a joke but then it turned into a band,” junior Alex Drachnik said, who plays bass for the band. Drachnik and junior Marshall Duffy, who plays guitar, were at a party when a friend of theirs challenged them to Bandapoolza.
“Then the next day we asked ourselves, ‘Do we really want to start a band?’” Drachnik said.
That’s when they decided to take on the challenge. The only problem was they needed a drummer and another guitarist.
“We asked around for people and that’s how we found [junior] Ricky Rodriguez and [senior] Anthony Cinseros,” Duffy said.
With the new additions to the band, they formed Spaceman Spiff, inspired by the character in the famous comic strip “Calvin & Hobbes.”
At their audition for bandapalooza, they realized it was hard to sing and play at the same time.
“So that’s where junior Lara Mrgic to came in to save the day,” Cinseros said.
Mrgic was really excited about it because it gave her a chance to sing something new other than country.
“I’ve never done rock before and I wanted to experience singing in other genres,” Mrgic said.
Spaceman Spiff opened with the song, “What’s My Age Again?” by Blink 182 to get the crowd going. Next, they took a pace slower by playing “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon. Then they got deeper by playing “All Around Me” by Flyleaf and finished it all off with “According to You,” by Orianthi.
