“She Waves the Flag” has played on the radio twice, and they have performed over 30 shows. Senior Andrey Newmann, Kris Nemirsky, Gio Hernandez, Nick Fitzgerald and Jonny Gomez, who graduated from Washington last year, were all ready to showcase their talents.

“We just had to come to Bandapalooza,” Newmann said.

The band started when Nemirsky and Hernandez from Kennedy High School came up with the idea. Nemirsky became the lead guitarist and lead vocalist with  Hernandez as the drummer.

“I called up my old classmate Jonny Gomez, who used to go to Fremont Christian School with me,” Nemirsky said.

Gomez who had moved to Washington High School was happy to be the band’s guitarist and vocalist.

“I bought my childhood friend, Nick to the band next [as a the keyboard player]” Gomez said.

Gomez also contacted Newmann, who accepted to be the band’s bass player.

“We became a band two years ago and we are getting better every time we perform,” Nemirsky said.

Within the first few months of becoming a band, they were able to settle into weekend practices at a warehouse in San Jose. They have grown on each other and have no trouble getting along.

“We were lucky that all of our parents were all supporting us,” Gomez said.

In the future, they would like to live the dream and go on a road tour. They are also releasing their CD “All In” pretty soon.
