Quick Question took the dark Badapalooza stage in the midst of blinking lights with their lead singer, junior Erin Riegelsberger singing and strumming her guitar to the first lines of an original, “Feeling Good.”
This performance was followed by a cover of “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, a cover of “No One Knows” by Queens of the Stone Age and a original, “Cliche Thank You.”
Before this progressive alternative band began touring local opportunities such as backyard parties and cafes, everything started at Blast Beats, a band competition at Riegelsberger’s junior high, Alsion Montessori School.
“I thought, why not try it?” Erin Riegelsberger said.
Her brother, freshman Reid Riegelsberger, had just begun playing the drums. They recruited Kennedy High School sophomore Robert Sesma, an old friend, to play the bass.
Last year, they gained another guitarist, Kennedy High School sophomore Gus Villarroel.
Riegelsberger writes the lyrics and song basics while Reid Riegelsberger, Villarroel and Sesma build on it. Her lyrics are influenced by recent events that soon morph into hypothetical situations. The band’s music is influenced by Incubus, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Angus Young.
“We want to inspire people the way other artists inspire us,” Reid Riegelsberger said.
As the band members approach any performance, with the full support of their friends and family, the excitement boils.
“When I perform its feels right, like I’m supposed to be there entertaining people. I live for the applause after we perform a song. It makes me feel accomplished, and eager to play another,” Reid Riegelsberger said.
