For girls, this holiday season is about trying new materials. If you like to be edgy you can try an all-over sequin dress. If you like sequins but don’t want to go that crazy, you can find sequins in stripes on T-shirts or in detailing on a cardigan. The romantics can go for chiffon shirts and dresses with plenty of ruffles. Those who live for high glamour can get a faux-fur vest. If you love the classy look, you can wear tweed in either a big or small print in a jacket, shorts, or a skirt. The cozy crowd can wear sweaters with chino or cargo pants. Sophisticated girls can find a lovely piece in velvet. It usually comes in black and other jewel tones. Velvet can be worn in leggings, a skirt or a beautiful dress. They can also get a metallic print jacket or skirt. Want to turn heads? Find a satin jumpsuit, it’s definitely 70s chic. Just want to go with a cashmere sweater? Dress it up with accessories. If you want to wear something other than opaque tights, you can go for a pair of dotted, lace or print tights. Need a relief from tights? Get a pair of over-the-knee socks. They’re super comfortable and keep your legs warm.

Boys, I think most girls can agree: give the flannel a break. Try a gingham print shirt with a cashmere sweater layered on top. You can also wear it with a bow tie or a skinny tie. Bow ties and skinny ties are very big this season in classy black and metallic purple or silver. Another button down shirt you can try is one with a thin denim-like material. A vest layered on top of a long sleeve shirt is an easy way to dress up and outfit. Or if you like to keep it simple, you can wear a V-neck cashmere sweater. You can wear tweed with a herringbone pattern in a jacket. Girls love the shawl collared sweaters, cardigans, scarves, leather jackets, and pea coats. So go for it! Also, remember to add a great hat to top it all off.

Here are some things both girls and boys can wear. Need a break from those skinny jeans? Go for corduroy, chino or cargo pants. Aren’t suede shoes just lovely? Girls can find them in heels and flats while both guys and girls can get them in boots and oxfords. Metallic shoes are great too!

All of these are readily available at your local chain stores, such as Forever 21, Pac Sun, H&M, American Eagle, J Crew and Urban Outfitters. Get ready to receive plenty of compliments and have a great holiday! Just remember, for this season, accessories and layering are key.
